My latest obsession
Blank pages notebooks are my latest obsession. I’ve tried many types of notebooks so far: dotted, with grids, little grids, lines, bigger lines…
I use them to jot down new ideas for fantasy stories, or to properly write them from start to end. Notebooks are essential in my daily life. I like to think of myself as a very old soul when speaking about it, because in the very digital world we are living in, it feels a luxury to me to write stories on paper. Even now, I am writing that post on a sheet of paper in the kitchen. Later, I will type it on the computer, but later. Now I want to enjoy the process and the moment.
That is to say, I really use pens and paper on a daily basis. Having tried different kinds of notebooks permitted me to better understand my needs about handwriting. So, I’ve come to the conclusion that blank pages are the best to express my creativity with words on paper.
With no marks on the page I feel free. Right now, for example, I am writing in a medium grey grid, but the squares are too big for my calligraphy, and at the same time they delimit my words. I feel like I should write a little bigger to avoid a wide space between the lines. Also, if I’d be taken by a sudden will to write diagonal, marks on paper remind me punctual that it is not permitted here. That is not how my creativity works.
I like the words to hold themselves on the paper without following predicted tracks. See the phrases emerging from the page, free to exist in their own shapes and curves, which are unique as personal calligraphy carries your own story within.
